It started off such a great day, 23 March 2022.

Apologies for a downbeat blog today, but some things you just never forget.

We had planned the ride out for a few days, just a quick ride to Gainsborough, fish n chips @ Adams Bay (V good btw) and a cuppa at Trent Port and anywhere else we fancied, the usual suspects, myself , Steve and Andy.

We had been having a great day, the weather was glorious for the time of year, until we ventured home along the A159 Gainsborough to Scunthorpe road. Steve was riding point, Andy was in the middle and I was bringing up the rear when out of the blue, after Steve had gone past him and absolute moronic a***hole decided to pull out straight in front of Andy, giving him absolutely no chance of even touching his brake. Andy hit him virtually straight on, we were doing about 55-60mph, I'm guessing a***hole was doing about 40mph so the impact was horrific. luckily (for me) there was a wide grass verge that the car veered onto otherwise I would have been next hitting this idiot. All I can remember immediately after, was parking up, getting my helmet off as quick as possible, running back to Andy thinking "please talk Andy, please talk", I got to him and shouted "Andy", a few seconds and then he splurted "What the f**k happened?"

An off duty fireman was one of the first to stop at the accident and he was brilliant, got the road closed off partially and helped with Andy in the first few minutes. Next up were the police and then the ambulance which was no more than 25-30 minutes and I honestly believe that short time was a lifesaver. After much deliberation between the ambulance staff they decided the Air Ambulance was needed and Andy was flown to Sheffield Hospital.

On the road to recovery. The NHS were, as always amazing !

I can remember going to see Andy just after the accident and being quite shocked at how bad he looked from his appalling injuries, these photo's were about 10 days after and the difference, with the care he got at Sheffield was amazing.

The "man" responsible for this, for almost killing one of my best friends, who had been driving with a total disregard to all other road users for about ten miles according to six witnesses got an £80 fine and 6 points on his licence !!!! Not even a ban !!!

Ride (and drive) safe out there everybody, and treat everyone on the road as an idiot, because a lot are just that !
